Zanna is a book about hope, despair, and the tireless commitment to protecting rhinos in Namibia. Rich in facts, yet told in a captivating and emotional way.
Zanna – Rhino Conservation in Action
Many of our guests encounter rhinos on our guided tours – unforgettable moments. But to truly understand the full scale of the poaching crisis and the protection efforts behind the scenes, a deeper insight is needed. That is why we decided to write down our story.
A look behind the scenes
The book takes you behind the scenes – to special encounters, dramatic chases, difficult decisions, and heartbreaking losses. Again and again, it tells of courage, endurance, and the unshakable will to never give up. At its heart is the story of one very special rhino: Zanna. Her life reflects the daily challenges faced by farmers, rangers, and conservationists – above all the ever-present threat of poaching. Yet there is hope: through dedicated teams, modern protection methods, and people who refuse to look away
It goes far beyond numbers and statistics: Zanna, orphaned as a calf, was raised by hand. We follow her growth, her quirks, and ultimately how she became a tragic symbol for the survival of her species. A moving account of the highs and lows of rhino conservation.
A shared responsibility
The book portrays rhino conservation as it truly is – honest, vivid, and deeply emotional. At the same time, it highlights how sustainable tourism can make a real difference. At ONE Namibia, revenues from tourism directly support the protection of wildlife and their habitats. Rhino conservation is a shared responsibility, and Zanna gives this responsibility a face – and a voice.
